I wanted a map that remembers the trips for me — something that looks beautiful on the wall even before the first scratch.
Map with Light is a tiny independent studio. Each light box is designed in-house and handmade in small batches: the black paper is precision-cut, the gold scratch foil is laid by hand over a translucent rainbow print, and an LED panel is fitted behind it all.

Questions, answered
How do I scratch it?
Use the included scratch tool or a coin. Short, light strokes work best — start in the middle of a region and work outwards to its border. Brush away the flakes with a dry cloth.
Does it need to stay plugged in?
No. It has a built-in rechargeable battery, so it glows cordlessly. Charge it with the included USB-C cable whenever the light dims.
How do I turn the light on and off?
Just tap the touch sensor on the frame. One tap on, one tap off.
Does it look good before scratching?
Yes — by day the gold-foil map on black paper looks like a framed art print. The rainbow appears as you scratch.
Can I undo a scratch?
The foil can’t be put back once it’s removed, so take your time on the first few places.
Is it handmade?
Yes. Every piece is designed by us and assembled by hand in small batches, so tiny variations are part of its charm.
Do all editions cost the same?
Yes. The Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan editions are the same size, built the same way and sold at the same price, with the same shipping options.
Where do you ship, and how much is shipping?
We ship by tracked SF Express: free to Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore; +US$15 to the US, UK and Eurozone; +US$30 to Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Because the light box has a built-in lithium battery, these are the only regions we can ship to for now — email us if you live elsewhere. Import duties or taxes, if any, are set by your country.

Are Kinmen and Matsu on the map?
